Paraguay again extends bidding to equip 206-MW Yguazu

Paraguay utility Administracion Nacional de Electricidad (ANDE) again extended bidding by pre-qualified firms to supply generating equipment and a transmission line for the 206-MW Yguazu hydroelectric project on Paraguay’s border with Argentina and Brazil. Bids now are due June 23.

ANDE previously called for bids by May 9. It has pre-qualified Consorcio Andritz Hydro GmbH – CIE S.A. – Engevix Engenharia S.A.; Consorcio Alstom Brasil Ltda. – Toshiba do Brasil Ltda.; Consorcio VSI (Voith Hydro Lta. de Brasil – Voith Hydro K.K. de Japon – Siemens S.A. de Colombia – Isolux Ingenieria S.A. de Argentina); and Industrias Metalurgicas Pescarmona S.A. – IMPSA de Argentina for the competition to equip Yguazu, also spelled Iguazu and Iguacu in the neighboring countries.

The firms are competing to supply and install two 103-MW turbine-generators and to design, supply, and install a 45-kilometer, 220-kilovolt transmission line at Yguazu Dam, a storage facility built on the Iguacu River in 1977 to provide water to the reservoir of the 210-MW Acaray project.
