Pennsylvania water agency invites hydro development proposals

Municipal water supplier Cambria Somerset Authority seeks proposals to develop the authority’s water resources in Pennsylvania for hydroelectric generation. Expressions of interest are due Sept. 4, with proposals due Oct. 22.

Cambria Somerset said it is considering the development of hydroelectric facilities for its entire reservoir and water distribution system.

It owns Hinckston Run Reservoir, Wilmore Reservoir, South Fork Dam, Border Dam, and Quemahoning Reservoir. (HNN 4/12/07) The authority also owns an extensive water delivery system throughout northern Somerset and southern Cambria counties, near Johnstown.

Cambria Somerset said it would consider proposals of a partnership with a possible developer. It said proposals should consider the entire system, including low-head, high-head, and in-line turbine applications.

Expressions of interest letters are due by 3 p.m. Sept. 4 to Cambria Somerset Authority, 244 Walnut St., Suite 201, Johnstown, PA 15901. A mandatory pre-proposal meeting is planned Sept. 24.

Final proposals are due by 4 p.m. Oct. 22. For information, see the authority’s Internet site, www.cambriasomersetwater.com.
