Portugal developer, city to develop alternative energy

Eviva Energy S.A., a development subsidiary of the Martifer holding company, has signed an agreement with the Portuguese city of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo to develop power projects utilizing hydropower, wind, and photovoltaic energy.

Eviva and the municipality signed a memorandum of understanding calling for a joint venture to identify, analyze, and develop power projects in the Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo area.

Eviva said the hydro projects could be located in the hydrographic basin of the Coa River, while wind farms could be built in the Marofa and Vieira mountain ranges.

In December, Eviva and EDP Producao, a unit of utility Energias de Portugal, won a concession competition for construction and operation of the 78-MW Ribeiradio/Ermida hydroelectric development on Portugal’s Vouga River. (HNN 12/21/07)
