Power Machines to equip Zhigulevskaya hydropower plant in Russia

OJSC Power Machines has signed a contract with RusHydro to supply nine hydropower units to Zhigulevskaya hydroelectric power station on the Volga River in Russia, Power Machines reported.

The contract is worth about 11.5 billion rubles (US$370.7 million), reports indicate. The contract is part of the program for technical re-equipment and reconstruction of Zhigulevskaya in 2011-2015, which is aimed at accelerating the pace of reconstruction.

As part of the contract, Power Machines will design, manufacture and supply the 129-MW units. It must also partially replace ancillary equipment. Startup of the first power unit is scheduled in 2013.

The hydro plant has a capacity of 2,300 MW, previous reports indicate. The new units will increase the plant’s capacity by about 94 MW, Power Machines reported.

In other news, Izhorskiye Zavody, part of OMZ Group, has manufactured two hydro generator stator shells for Russia’s Boguchanskaya and Sayano-Shushenskaya hydropower plants, wire reports indicate.
