Global consulting group Poyry has been awarded a consulting assignment for the construction of Cambodia’s 400-MW Lower Se San 2 hydropower plant.
Awarded by developer Hydro Power Lower Se San 2 Company Ltd., the assignment includes independent engineering services including construction monitoring and inspection throughout the building period.
The value of the deal was not disclosed.
“This assignment further strengthens Poyry‘s position as one of the world’s leading hydropower engineering consultancies,” said Didier Mallieu, Vice President of Poyry Hydropower and Renewable Energy. “Through our comprehensive expertise and references, we provide our clients with the exact services they need and complete investment projects on time.”
Lower Se San 2 is to be located on the Se San River in the northeastern Steung Traeng province. The plant is expected to begin operation by the end of 2018.
HydroWorld.com most recently reported on the Lower Se San 2 plant in December 2013, at which point the Cambodian government was seeking support for the project from surrounding nations.
Hydro Power Lower Se San 2 Co. Ltd. is a joint subsidiary of China’s Hydrolancing International Energy and the Royal Group of Cambodia.
The project is being build as part of Cambodia’s efforts to increase access to electricity. The Cambodian government previously announced that it has instituted a two-part plan to provide electricity “of any type by the year 2020” and to have grid-quality electricity supplied to 70% of households by 2030. Currently, only about a third of Cambodia’s population has access to power.
