Qualifying restarted to equip India’s 444-MW Vishnugad Pipalkoti

RISHIKESH, India 4/5/12 (PennWell) — THDC India Ltd. has restarted the pre-qualification process to supply electro-mechanical equipment for the 444-MW Vishnugad Pipalkoti hydroelectric project on India’s Alaknanda River. Applications are due April 20.

THDC canceled its previous pre-qualification solicitation for the project, which was carried out in 2008 and 2009. THDC received a US$648 million loan from the World Bank in 2011 to help achieve financial closure of Vishnugad Pipalkoti. Most recently, it recruited consultants in January to monitor and evaluate implementation of an environmental management plan.

The current solicitation seeks EPC supply of electro-mechanical works including four vertical Francis turbine-generators of 111 MW each; single-phase, 40-MVa, 420-kV transformers; 400-kV gas-insulated switchgear; computerized control and monitoring system; spherical and butterfly valves; and XLPE cables. The contract also is to include assistance in operation for six months.

Pre-qualification documents in English may be obtained from the address below until April 19 for 10,000 rupees or US$250 by demand draft to THDC India Ltd. at New Delhi/Rishikesh.
