The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation’s Acquisition Operations Group has announced its intention to award a sole-source contract to the Centre for Energy Advancement through Technological Innovation (CEATI).
The agreement will leverage Reclamation funds by working with other sponsors to allow CEATI’s Hydraulic Plant Life Interest Group (HPLIG) to conduct technical research that will result in a report to be titled, “Hydro Turbine Generator Electrical Overhaul Guide.”
Reclamation says the specificity and confidential nature of the information provided in the report means only contributing CEATI members will be able to review it. Requirements for the report include:
Comprehensive outline of the steps necessary to plan for and to execute an electrical generator and auxiliary overhaul.
- Organized to follow the steps of an overhaul in chronological order. The component sections of the guide will cover preplanning, disassembly, inspection, repair, reassembly, reporting and evaluation.
- Appendices will contain useful spreadsheets and basic software for use during overhauls.
- Guide will address all aspects of completing an electrical overhaul and cover generators, all their components including rotating, fixed and embedded parts. The governor speed sensing equipment or controls will also be included as will all electrical parts of the generator such as windings, CTs, PTs, rotating, static exciters, and protection and controls.
- Final delivery will include a prepared ready-to-publish report on the results of the investigation, presentation of the results to funding consortium members, provide a power point presentation, and provide a technical brief summary.
