Reclamation awards contract for turbine runner repair at 428-MW Hungry Horse hydropower project

Hydro Services LLC has been awarded a US$89,870 contract for turbine runner cavitation repair at the 428-MW Hungry Horse hydroelectric plant in Montana.

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation most recently solicited bids for the work in November 2012, which includes turbine runner weld repairs on four Francis turbines. Damaged areas contain cavitation-enhanced corrosion with sever surface pitting.

Hungry Horse, on the south fork of Flathead River, features a 564-foot-tall concrete dam completed in 1953 and a powerhouse with four units uprated and overhauled between 1990 and 1993.
