Power Holding Co. of Nigeria (PHCN) seeks expressions of interest or bids in three solicitations for rehabilitation work at the 540-MW Jebba and 760-MW Kainji hydroelectric projects on the Niger River in Nigeria. Responses are due August 31, September 22, and October 14.
The World Bank’s International Development Association approved a loan to Autorite du Bassin du Niger, including Benin, Guinea, Mali, Niger, and Nigeria, for a program of water resources development and sustainable management of ecosystems in the Niger River Basin, including rehabilitation of Jebba and Kainji. 540-MW Jebba reservoir cleaning tendering
Currently, PHCN invites expressions of interest by August 31 for a survey and estimation of bed load accumulation in Jebba Dam’s reservoir and preparation of bidding documents for reservoir cleaning and evacuation. Work includes a hydrographic study over three months, assistance during the bidding process over three months, and main contract work evaluation over two months. Expressions of interest and qualifications are due by August 31 to the first address below.
540-MW Jebba maintenance tools and machines
The utility also seeks bids by September 22 for supply and installation of maintenance tools and machines for reinforcement of a mechanical; electrical; and protection, control, and metering workshop at the Jebba power plant. Firms may bid for one or both lots: Lot 1, mechanical workshop tools and machinery, and Lot 2, electrical and protection, control, and metering workshop tools and instruments.

760-MW Kainji turbines replacement, rehab
PHCN also seeks bids by October 14 for construction and equipment to rehabilitate the Kainji project. Work includes design, supply, and installation of two new 120-MW Kaplan turbines to replace all but the embedded parts of existing Units 1G5 and 1G6 propeller turbines. Other work includes rehabilitation of Unit 1G12’s 100-MW Kaplan turbine, rehabilitation of plant auxiliary services, and design, supply, and installation of new distributed control systems for 1G5, 1G6, and 1G12. The work is to be completed in 31 to 34 months.
Bidding documents may be obtained from the second address below for 30,000 naira or US$200 by certified bank check to Power Holding Co. of Nigeria Plc. Documents will be delivered by courier for an additional 15,000 naira or US$100 for Europe and West Africa, or 30,000 naira or US$200 for all other companies, payable to Manager, PHCN – PMU at Abuja. Bids are due by 12:30 p.m. October 14 to the first address below.
