Rep. McMorris Rodgers to be honored, speak at upcoming NHA conference

The National Hydropower Association has announced Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers will be honored as one of the organization’s Legislators of the Year for her advocacy of hydroelectric power.

McMorris Rodgers, who will address attendees of NHA’s Annual Conference during its opening afternoon session April 28, was a co-author of the Hydropower Regulatory Efficiency Act of 2013 that was enacted by President Barack Obama this past August.

“The future of American energy independence depends on the development of an ‘all-of-the-above’ energy approach, and I’m proud that hydro is finally on its way to being part of it,” McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., said.

Since being elected to the House in 2004, McMorris Rodgers has become Chair of the House Republican Conference, making her the fourth-highest ranking Republican and the highest ranking female Republican in the House of Representatives.

“[She] is eastern Washington’s chief advocate in Congress and one of the rising stars in American politics,” NHA said. “Cathy McMorris Rodgers has lived the American Dream, and she sees her chief goal in Congress as rebuilding that dream for our children and grandchildren.”

McMorris Rodgers joins NHA’s slate of high-profile speakers that also includes Department of Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, Federal Energy Regulatory Commissioner Tony Clark and Jose Zayas, Director of DOE’s Wind and Water Power Technologies Office.

The National Hydropower Association Annual Conference takes place April 28-30 at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C. Registrations are still available. For more information about the event, visit
