AMERSFOORT, The Netherlands, 3/5/12 (PennWell) — Engineering consulting firms Royal Haskoning and DHV have announced their intention to merge, according to a release from the newly-formed Royal Haskoning DHV.

The company will be headquartered in Amersfoort, the Netherlands, and employ 8,000 people in more than 100 offices and 35 countries — putting Royal Haskoning DHV in the global top 10 of independently owned, non-listed companies and top 40 overall, according to the release. The new combination will have a turnover in excess of US$940 million.

The letter of intent for the merger was signed Feb. 27, with a signing of a merger agreement scheduled for mid-summer after due diligence and other approvals have been obtained.

Recently, Royal Haskoning began work on a hydroelectric project that would provide power to 350,000 in Uganda’s western region.
