Salto Andersen small hydropower project comes online in Argentina

Argentina’s 9.4-MW Salto Andersen hydropower project in Rio Negro province has started supplying power to the national grid, wire services reported.

The construction contract for the small hydro project was awarded to Spanish group Isolux Corsan in a public tender.

Investment in the project is expected to hit US$27 million, double original estimates in 2007, Business News Americas reported.

In other news, construction work at the 20-MW Alto Tulua and Bajo Tulua small hydro projects in Colombia’s Valle de Cuaca department are 84.3 percent and 68.5 percent complete respectively, hydropower generator Epsa announced.

Both hydropower plants are expected to come online before the end of the year.
