Sweden town seeks small hydropower unit for Taipale hydro project

The municipality of Overtornea seeks bids to supply a small hydropower unit to the Taipale hydro project in Sweden. Bids are due August 19.

Overtornea, on the Torne River, which forms the border with Finland, considers itself Sweden‘s first “eco-municipality” for initiatives including a renewable energy policy. Facebook recently selected Lulea, Sweden, for its first data center outside of the United States due to the region’s abundance of hydropower.

With a policy of developing wind turbines and converting fossil fueled plants to renewable energy, Overtornea seeks an “environmentally acceptable” small-scale hydropower unit for Taipale power station at the existing Taipale Dam in Overtornea.

Solicitation documents may be obtained from the Internet tender site https://tendsign.com/doc.aspx?ID=38244&Gogo=Docs.

Bids in English are due August 19. For information, contact Leif Haggbo, Overtornea kommun, Tingshusvagen 2, SE-957 85 Overtornea, Sweden; E-mail: leif.haggbo@kommun.overtornea.se.
