Sweden utility seeks fish ladder, dam work at 591-MW Stornorrfors

Utility Vattenfall AB Vattenkraft seeks applications for pre-qualification to construct a new fish ladder and spillway at the 591-MW Stornorrfors hydroelectric project on Sweden’s Umea River. Responses are due by August 25.

A previous notification specified the work would include erection of a new spillway and 21-meter gate, plus dam reinforcement. An old fish ladder and dam construction are to be demolished to depth of 10 meters underwater. A new 300-meter concrete fish ladder and 100-meter fry passage are to be built.

Vattenfall previously courted contractors to equip a mini-hydropower project at the site.

Work is to be carried out between January 2007 and May 2008.

Pre-qualification documents may be obtained from the address below. Applications for pre-qualification, in Swedish, are due August 25. Vattenfall plans to invite bids from a short list of from three to five bidders.
