Tanzania seeks consultants for series of power system tasks

State-owned utility Tanzania Electric Supply Co. Ltd. (Tanesco) invites expressions of interest from consultants for a series of contracts to help develop and operate Tanzania’s hydro and thermal power-based electricity system. Responses are due August 22 and September 19.

The solicitations are under the World Bank-backed Songo Songo Gas Development and Power Generation Project. As part of the program, the Tanzania Ministry of Energy and Minerals invites expressions of interest August 25 from consultants to advise on development of the 358-MW Ruhudji hydroelectric project. The utility’s system includes six hydropower projects totaling 561 MW and thermal power plants totaling 690 MW.

Tanesco seeks expressions of interest by 2:30 p.m. August 22 for Bid No. PA/001/08/HQ/C/140, financial advisory and modeling services for financial strengthening of Tanesco.

Tanesco seeks expressions of interest by 2:30 p.m. September 19 for:
o Bid No. PA/001/08/HQ/C/137, consulting on energy rationalization and demand response;
o Bid No. PA/001/08/HQ/C/138, consulting on a national dispatch load center supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system;
o Bid No. PA/001/08/HQ/C/139 an overall system operations study including reactive power compensation and transmission system protection; and
o Bid No. PA/001/08/HQ/C/142, consulting on a hydro-thermal power dispatch system upgrade.
