Transformers Services wins award for upgrade work at 1,076-MW Bonneville Lock and Dam

Transformer Services Inc. has won a US$3 million contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to refurbish step-up transformers at the 1,076-MW Bonneville Lock and Dam’s Second Powerhouse.

The Corps’ Portland District most recently called for bids in August.

Per the tender, Transformer Services will replace obsolete equipment and make improvements to two in-service GSU transformers and one spare transformer in the Second Powerhouse. The two main units have been in service for 25 years.

HydroWorld.com reported in October that the Corps had counted record numbers of Chinook salmon passing Bonneville, which is located on the Columbia River.
