Tunnel breakthrough beats schedule at Vietnam’s 36-MW Nam Chien 2

Vietnam hydro project builder Cavico Corp. announced tunnel breakthrough was accomplished two months ahead of schedule at the 36-MW Nam Chien 2 hydroelectric project in Vietnam’s Son La Province.

Working under contract from developer Northwest Joint Stock Co., Cavico subsidiary Cavico Power and Resources has been building a headrace tunnel for the project at Muong La, 350 kilometers northwest of Hanoi. (HNN 3/22/07)

Cavico said it now is focused on concrete finish work valued at US$1.12 million. Completion is scheduled for March 2009.

The builder said the tunnel contract value was revised to US$3.52 million, including the concrete work, for a tunnel 1,300 meters in length and 4.8 meters in diameter. The original contract, for 2,767 meters of tunnel, was valued at US$4.7 million. Cavico also is responsible for a surge tank and incline tunnel.

Northwest Joint Stock is investing US$37.5 million in the project.
