U.S. awards gate repair contract for Raystown Dam in Pennsylvania

R. Zoppo Corp. has received a $1.4 million contract to repair tainter gates at Raystown Lake Dam on the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River at Hesston.

The Corps’ Baltimore District took bids for the work in July. It awarded a contract in 2012 to R. Zoppo Corp. to repair gate seals at Raystown.

R. Zoppo, of Stoughton, Mass., now is to perform Phases 2 and 3 of gate repair at Raystown. Work is to include repair of delaminated skin plate, cathodic protection, pitting repairs and installation of government-furnished seals for the tainter gates, which measure 45 feet square.

Although the flood control structure is owned and operated by the Corps, Raystown Lake Dam is the location of the 21-MW William F. Matson hydroelectric project (No. 2769) operated by Alleghany Electric Cooperative.
