U.S. extends bid date for replacement turbines at 2,078-MW Hoover

The Bureau of Reclamation has extended the deadline for bids for design and supply of a replacement turbine, with an option to supply three more, at 2,078-MW Hoover Dam on the Colorado River in Arizona and Nevada. Bids now are due Feb. 8, 2010. 

Reclamation previously called for bids by Jan. 25. (HydroWorld 1/4/10) The agency began overhaul work on Hoover Dam turbines in 1998. Most recently, it said it plans to seek bids for replacement turbine seal rings at Hoover, 255-MW Davis, and 120-MW Parker dam hydroelectric projects on the Colorado. 

Reclamation plans to seek computational fluid dynamics, design, physical modeling, hydraulic turbine manufacturing, and supply of one turbine for Hoover Unit N8, including runner cones, coupling bolts, and design of a draft tube throat liner. It proposes an option for manufacture of three more turbines for Units A1, N5, and N6.

Estimated value of the contract is between $5 million and $20 million over four years.

U.S. extends bid date for Colorado hydro plant machine monitors

The Bureau of Reclamation has extended the deadline for bids to supply machine monitors for its 86.4-MW Blue Mesa, 31.5-MW Crystal, and 173.334-MW Morrow Point hydropower plants, all in the 1,747.184-MW Colorado River Storage Project. Bids now are due Sept. 2, 2009.

BuRec previously called for bids by Aug. 20. (HydroWorld 7/10/09) It originally expected to issue a solicitation in March, but updated the solicitation number and set a first tentative response date of July 9. (HydroWorld 6/25/09) 

The agency seeks a contractor to furnish machine monitors for five vertical-shaft hydroelectric generators in the three power plants, all on Colorado’s Gunnison River. The machine monitors can be individual units for each generator, or can be capable of monitoring two or more generators, BuRec said.
