The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has extended the deadlines for bids to supply replacement penstock butterfly valves and wicket gate seals at 49-MW Lost Creek Dam on Oregon’s Rogue River. Bids in two solicitations now are due Sept. 22 and 26.
The Corps’ Portland District previously called for bids Sept. 15 and 19. It held a pre-solicitation conference last year to obtain contractor information about plans to replace turbine wicket gate seals at Lost Creek.
Lost Creek Dam began service in 1977 as part of the Rogue River Basin Project. The Corps’ Portland District took bids in 2011 for asbestos and lead abatement at Lost Creek and 20 other dams and hydro projects in Oregon.
In the first of two solicitations, the Portland District now seeks bids by Sept. 22 to remove two 10.5-foot-diameter penstock butterfly valves and appurtenances, hydraulic power unit and controls; and fabricate, assemble and install two new valves and other equipment at Lost Creek. The work is valued at $1 million to $5 million.
A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W9127N14R0008 in the “Keyword/Solicitation #” box. Bids now are due Sept. 22. For information, see the address below.
In a second solicitation, the Corps now seeks bids by Sept. 26 to remove and reinstall 48 wicket gates replacing gate seals of 10.5 inches long, 1.25 inches wide and 1 inch tall.
The Portland District said the project has two vertical Francis turbines supplied by Boving & Co. rated at 33,800 horsepower at a net head of 275 feet. Each unit has 24 wicket gates that control flow of water from the scroll case to the turbine. At the top and bottom of each wicket gate there are bronze seals that are badly worn allowing excessive water to leak when gates are closed. Work to replace the seals is expected to cost $500,000 to $1 million.
