U.S. seeks firms for turbine cavitation repair at 58-MW Clarence Cannon Dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks information on firms able to perform turbine cavitation repair at the 58-MW Clarence Cannon Dam hydroelectric project in northeast Missouri. Responses are due May 27.

Authorized by Congress in 1962, Clarence Cannon Dam impounds the Salt River to form Mark Twain Lake, providing hydropower, flood control, recreation, fish and wildlife, water supply, and improved navigation on the Mississippi River. The Corps took bids in 2012 for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system work at Clarence Cannon and two other Corps hydro projects in Missouri. It awarded a contract to Tarlton Corp. in 2011 for repair and repainting of tainter gates and bulkheads at Clarence Cannon.

In a sources sought notice, the Corps’ St. Louis District now seeks information on firms able to perform cavitation repair on a Francis turbine runner at the project. It is to use responses to determine whether to set aside a solicitation for small businesses.

The work is to include base repairs of the runner crown, band and blades with a stainless steel overlay, replacement of packing on 28 wicket gates, cleanup and disposal of grease in the turbine pit.
