U.S. seeks flood control civil work at Sardis, Enid dams

VICKSBURG, Miss., U.S. 6/14/12 (PennWell) — The U.S Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids in two solicitations for flood control civil works at Sardis and Enid dams in Mississippi. Bids are due June 28 and July 10.

Although there is no hydropower at either dam, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission granted preliminary permits to Hydro Green Energy LLC in 2007 to study hydropower projects at the sites that would use a combination of conventional and hydrokinetic technologies.

The current solicitations, which are set aside for small businesses, are part of a Corps flood control program for the Mississippi River and its tributaries.

The Corps’ Vicksburg District seeks bids by June 28 for partial reconstruction of toe ditch pervious concrete pavement at Sardis Lake Dam on the Little Tallahatchie River in Panola County, Miss. Work includes removal of concrete, excavation, construction of pervious concrete pavement and concrete paved flumes, furnishing and placing engineering fabric, control of water, turf maintenance, environmental protection, and stormwater pollution prevention. The work is valued at $1 million to $5 million.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W912EE12B0011 in the “Keyword/Solicitation #” box.

The Vicksburg District also seeks bids by July 10 for emergency spillway and interceptor toe ditch joint sealing at Enid Lake Dam on the Yazoo River in Yalobusha County, Miss. Work includes removal and replacement of expansion joint material in vertical concrete wall monoliths of the approach and descent aprons of the emergency spillway and the dam toe interceptor ditch and outfall drain. The work is valued at $100,000 to $500,000.
