U.S. sets site visit, extends bidding for 86.4-MW Blue Mesa rewinds, excitation for three hydro projects

The Bureau of Reclamation has scheduled a site visit and extended bidding bids to rewind two generators at the 86.4-MW Blue Mesa hydropower plant and to supply excitation systems for Blue Mesa and two other hydro plants in the 1,747.184-MW Colorado River Storage Project. The site visit is scheduled March 4-5, with bids now due April 2.

Reclamation previously set the solicitation close date for March 5. It awarded a contract in 2009 to Peak Hydro Services of Chattanooga, Tenn., to repair draft tube discharge rings for the two Francis turbines at Blue Mesa, near Montrose, Colo.

In the current solicitation, the agency seeks bids to disassemble and reassemble two 48-megavolt-ampere generators and to provide a new stator core and frame for each unit. Additionally, the contractor is to provide new digital excitation systems for Blue Mesa and the 31.5-MW Crystal and 173.334-MW Morrow Point hydro plants, also in the Colorado River project.

The work is valued at more than $10 million.

A pre-solicitation notice and attachments may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. R14PS01024 in the “Keyword/Solicitation #” box. A site visit is scheduled March 4-5. Those planning to attend must submit company name and name of attendees by Feb. 27 to William Heckler, wheckler@usbr.gov, and Washington Bennett, wbennett@usbr.gov.

The solicitation close date now is at 4 p.m., Mountain time, April 2. For information contact Washington Bennett, Contract Specialist, Bureau of Reclamation, Upper Colorado Regional Office, 125 S. State St., Salt Lake City, UT 84138; (1) 801-524-3853; E-mail: wbennett@usbr.gov.
