U.S. to seek rewinds for 86.4-MW Blue Mesa, excitation for three hydro projects

The Bureau of Reclamation plans to seek bids to rewind two generators at the 86.4-MW Blue Mesa hydropower plant and to supply excitation systems for Blue Mesa and two other hydro plants in the 1,747.184-MW Colorado River Storage Project. A solicitation is expected in November or December.

Reclamation awarded a contract in 2009 to Peak Hydro Services of Chattanooga, Tenn., to repair draft tube discharge rings for the two Francis turbines at Blue Mesa, near Montrose, Colo.

In the current solicitation, the agency plans to seek bids to disassemble and reassemble two 48-megavolt-ampere generators and to provide a new stator core and frame for each unit. Additionally, the contractor is to provide new digital excitation systems for Blue Mesa and the 31.5-MW Crystal and 173.334-MW Morrow Point hydro plants, also in the Colorado River project.

The work is valued at more than $10 million.

A pre-solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. R14PS01024 in the “Keyword/Solicitation #” box. Reclamation plans a site visit in November or December. Prospective bidders are invited to make site visit arrangements and to obtain draft specifications at the address below.
