UPDATE – AMP-Ohio names cofferdam contractors for Ohio River projects

American Municipal Power-Ohio Inc. has named contractors to design and build cofferdams and prepare foundations for powerhouses for three Ohio River hydroelectric projects totaling 191 MW.

AMP-Ohio, which represents 119 municipal utilities in five states, named: Kiewit Construction for 84-MW Cannelton (No. 10228) at Cannelton Locks and Dam, near Cannelton, Ind.; CJ Mahan Construction for 72-MW Smithland (No. 6641) at Smithland Locks and Dam in Livingston County, Ky.; and Ruhlin Construction for 35-MW Willow Island (No. 6902) at Willow Island Locks and Dam near Waverly, W.Va. The Corps of Engineers operates the locks and dams.

AMP-Ohio announced the names of the contractors Aug. 14 but added the organization was involved in final drafting and negotiations.

AMP-Ohio previously awarded a generating equipment contract worth more than $300 million to Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation for the Ohio River projects. (HNN 6/18/08) The projects are expected to go on line in 2012.
