UPDATE – Bhutan extends bid date to build 114-MW Dagachhu

Dagachhu Hydro Power Corp. Ltd. has extended the deadline of bidding for civil construction of the 114-MW Dagachhu hydroelectric project on Bhutan’s Dagachhu River. Bids now are due September 30.

Dagachhu Hydro previously called for bids by September 2 for the work, which is to include engineering, procurement, and construction of a diversion weir, channel and tunnel, desilter, shafts, powerhouse, maintenance and control buildings, water supply, sewerage and sewage treatment, lighting, and a small power distribution system. The Bhutan Ministry of Energy awarded a contract in 2007 to Pricewaterhouse Coopers Pvt. Ltd. (India) in association with Nippon Koei Co. Ltd. (Japan) to help prepare a Bhutan Power Development project that included Dagachhu. (HNN 4/20/07) The program, now called the Green Power Development Project, also includes a rural electrification component.

In addition to the civil work, the Asian Development Bank has approved advance action contracting to expedite preparation of tender documents and evaluation of bids for the Green Power Development Project. (HNN 2/26/08) For information, contact the address below.

The run-of-river Dagachhu project is to export power to India via existing transmission connections. The Dagachhu River is a tributary of the Punatsangchhu River that feeds the Brahmaputra River in India.

Bid documents for the Dagachhu civil work, in English, may be obtained from the address below for US$500.
