The board of utility Endesa Chile has approved a US$273 million investment in construction of the 150-MW Los Condores hydroelectric project on the Laguna del Maule reservoir in Chile’s Region VII.
The board action follows approval April 16 of the project’s environmental assessment by Corema, the environmental regulator of Chile’s Maule Region. (HNN 4/18/08)
Endesa said the board also authorized plans to award four main contracts, three for civil works and one for equipment. A company spokesman told Business News Americas that Endesa will launch tendering for project works as soon as formal environmental permits are issued.
Endesa, which submitted the project for environmental review in 2007, said it plans to bring the run-of-river project on line by the first quarter of 2012 in San Clemente District. (HNN 6/11/07)
The project includes construction and operation of a 150-MW hydropower station taking water from Laguna del Maule by a 16-kilometer system of pipe and tunnels. Los Condores would utilize flows of 25 cms and a head of 765 meters to generate 529 GWh annually.
