UPDATE – Equipment bidding set to refurbish Sweden’s 7-MW Lernbo

Swedish generator Vasterbergslagens Kraft AB (VB Kraft) invites applications for qualification to equip a refurbished 7-MW Lernbo hydroelectric project near Ludvika.

Equipment suppliers are being pre-qualified for tendering in September for Lernbo, which was built in 1899, 240 kilometers from Stockholm. (HNN 5/11/07)

VB Kraft said May 14 it would invest US$11 million to replace equipment from 1912 and 1944, perform necessary civil work, repair a surge tank, and install new systems for control and machine cooling. When recommissioned in 2009, Lernbo is to have two 3.5-MW units producing 28 gigawatt-hours annually, compared to previous generation of 23 GWh.

The refurbished project is to utilize turbine-generators with nominal discharge of 50 cms at a head of 27 meters. VB Kraft said it plans to select between four and six equipment vendors to receive invitations to bid by September.

The company said contracts for civil works, controls, and cooling systems will be solicited later.
