Ethiopian Electric Power Corp. (EEPCo) seeks bids to supply electro-mechanical equipment for the 1,870-MW Gilgel Gibe 3 hydroelectric project, under construction on Ethiopia’s Omo River. Bids are due April 30.
With funding from the African Development Fund, EEPCo seeks the equipment within the framework of an engineering-procurement-construction contract previously awarded to Salini Costruttori SpA of Italy. (HNN 1/29/08)
Ethiopia President Girma Woldegoirgis laid the cornerstone of the US$1.75 billion project January 24. Salini began initial work in December 2006 at the project site, 240 kilometers southwest of the Addis Ababa. The project includes a 240-meter-tall rockfill dam, tunnel, distribution and water diversion works, and a powerhouse.
EEPCo seeks design, supply, and installation of electro-mechanical equipment including:
o Generating units, including 10 187-MW vertical-shaft Francis turbine, synchronous generators, governors, butterfly valves, and excitation;
o Sixteen main step-up transformers;
o Switchyard; and
o Plant general auxiliary systems.
Bid documents may be obtained after February 29 from the address below by request labeled ï¿½Request for Bidding Documents for the Gibe III, ICB number: Gibe III HPP/EM/001/2008.ï¿½ The request is to include a fee of US$200 or the equivalent in local currency, paid by banker’s check.
