UPDATE – India state extends consultant date for small hydro

Agencies of Uttaranchal State have extended the deadline for expressions of interest from consultants to assist with design and implementation of small hydropower projects and transmission system improvements. Responses now are due January 10.

With US$300 million in funding from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the state is proceeding with the Uttaranchal Power Sector Investment Program comprising clean energy development mainly involving small hydro, plus transmission system expansion and sector capacity building. (HNN 12/8/06)

The Power Transmission Corp. of Uttaranchal Ltd. (PTCUL) and hydro developer Uttaranchal Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. (UJVNL) said they intend to pre-qualify consultants:
o For PTCUL: to review bidding documents, technical specifications, and construction and manufacturers drawings for transmission lines and substations; and
o For UJVNL: to review and check drawings, manage and supervise project implementation, and supervise commissioning of 5- and 10-MW hydropower projects.

Details of the required tasks are on the ADB Internet site at www.adb.org/Documents/ADBBO/Other_Notices/ind/uttarpower2(rev)-ind.asp. The agencies said firms that responded to an earlier invitation for expressions of interest (HNN 5/25/06) may submit supplemental information.
