UPDATE – India’s NHPC extends CDM consultant date for 105-MW Loktak

India’s National Hydroelectric Power Corp. (NHPC) has extended the deadline for bids from consultants to register the refurbishment of the 105-MW Loktak hydroelectric project for sale of carbon emissions reductions.

Bids now are due May 6, extended from April 2. (HNN 1/18/08) NHPC also said prospective bidders can continue to obtain bid documents from its Internet site, www.nhpcindia.com. It extended the deadline for submitting a letter confirming document download until April 7.

Loktak, which was commissioned in 1983, has been undergoing refurbishment on the Loktak River near Imphal in Manipur State. (HNN 11/1/07) Its three original 35-MW units currently only provide generating capacity of 90 MW.

NHPC said renovation and modernization of the project is expected to increase capacity by 15 MW and to generate an additional 40.26 MWh annually.

The utility seeks a consultant with the experience of registering carbon emissions reductions of at least one hydroelectric project under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The consultant is responsible for preparing the project design document and obtaining host country approval, project validation, registration by the CDM board, monitoring, verification, and issuance of carbon emission reductions (CER). The consultant is to charge a percentage of issued CERs as its fee.

Applicants may obtain bid documents from NHPC’s Internet site and now have until April 7 to submit a letter of confirmation to the address below with a document fee of 1,000 rupees or US$25 by crossed demand draft to National Hydroelectric Power Corp. Ltd. at Faridabad. Originally, documents also were available upon written request to the address below by February 15, accompanied by the fee and labeled �Request for Tender Documents for Consultancy service for CDM benefits for Renovation and Modernization of Loktak Power Station.�
