UPDATE – Ontario again extends bid date for Trout Lake River

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources again extended the deadline for proposals to develop three hydropower sites on Trout Lake River in western Ontario. The new due date is Feb. 28.

The government said the site release package for sites 5QC15, 5QC16, and 5QC17 provides opportunities for renewable energy development and encourages partnerships with local aboriginal communities. (HNN 11/28/06) While the ministry did not disclose the estimated capacities of the sites, it did say the three projects could be expected to generate a total of 16 gigawatt-hours annually.

Development plans must identify an applicant’s ability to design, build, and finance the project, and to complete federal, provincial, and environmental assessment requirements.

To obtain details of Solicitation CRP-02-06, applicants must register at the Ministry’s Renewable Energy extranet site, www.mnr.gov.on.ca/mnr/renewable/extranet.html. Registrants will receive a user name and password for the site, where documents and other information are available.

Proposals are due by 3 p.m. Feb. 28 to the Waterpower Site Release Coordinator, Ministry of Natural Resources, Lands and Water Branch, Renewable Energy Section, 300 Water St., Fifth Floor South, Peterborough, Ontario K9J 8M5 Canada.
