UPDATE – Portugal utility again extends bidding for 170-MW Baixo Sabor

Utility Energias de Portugal (EDP) again extended the deadline for bids to supply generating equipment for the 170-MW Baixo Sabor pumped-storage project. Bids now are due September 15.

EDP originally extended the bidding deadline to September 1 from the original date of July 31. (HNN 6/6/08)

The utility seeks a firm to equip Baixo Sabor, on the Sabor River in northern Portugal. It took bids in January for civil construction after the European Commission withdrew its environmental opposition to the 354 million euro (US$484 million) project. (HNN 9/12/07)

EDP seeks all equipment for the project, including reversible turbine-generators, hydro-mechanical equipment, transformers, command and control equipment, and auxiliary equipment. Baixo Sabor is to include a 123-meter-tall double arch dam, a 45-meter-tall gravity dam, and a powerhouse containing two turbine-generators. It is expected to go on line in late 2012 or early 2013.

Bid documents in digital format may be obtained from the address below for 2,500 euros (US$3,896) in cash or crossed check to EDP – Gestao da Producao de Energia SA.

Bids, in Portuguese, now are due by 5 p.m. September 15.
