UPDATE – Portugal utility cancels Azores solicitation

Utility Empresa de Electricidade e Gaz (EEG) has canceled a solicitation for bids to build the 1.134-MW Ribeira Grande hydro project in the Portugal-owned Azores Islands.

EEG offered no explanation for cancellation of the call for bids, which had been due July 28. (HNN 6/2/08)

The project would include construction of three dams on Ferreiro River, Grande River, and a tributary, plus an intake on a second tributary on Flores Island in the Azores group in the mid-Atlantic. The solicitation called for construction of a powerhouse including two 567-kW Pelton turbines, other electro-mechanical and hydro-mechanical equipment, and automation.
