Upgrade sought for Sweden’s 70-MW Langstrommen

Fortum Generation AB invites applications for pre-qualification to renovate and upgrade a turbine-generator at the 70-MW Langstrommen hydroelectric project in Ljusnan on Sweden’s Ljusnan River. Responses are due October 20.

Fortum seeks a new turbine of about 29 MW for a head of 30 meters and maximum flow of 110 cubic meters per second. It also seeks refurbishment of a generator with new stator and rotor poles to about 32 MVa, ll kV.

In 2004, the utility awarded contracts to GE Energy for a replacement turbine and to Power Machines of Russia for a new generator stator, assembly devices, and spare parts for upgrade of one of the project’s three generators.

Pre-qualification documents may be obtained from the address below. Applications for pre-qualification, in English or Swedish, are due by October 20. Fortum plans to invite bids about November 1 from a short-list of three to eight firms.
