The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids to repair 2011 flood damage to the plunge pool at the 185.3-MW Fort Peck hydroelectric project. Bids are due Sept. 14.
The Corps scheduled a site visit Aug. 23.
The agency awarded a $1.69 million contract in July to DRL Corp. for emergency road and drain repairs at Fort Peck on the Missouri River near Glasgow. It seeks bids Aug. 21 to rehabilitate 16 spillway gates at the project.
The Corps announced in April that it anticipates tendering by its Omaha, Walla Walla, and Galveston districts for a large volume of contracts to repair damage from 2011 flooding in the Missouri River Basin, including work affecting Fort Peck and five other major Corps hydroelectric projects.
The Corps said flooding at Fort Peck required operating its spillway for about four months with peak discharges of more than double the previous maximum discharge since the project was built in 1938. A hole scoured at the downstream end of the spillway exposed much of the cutoff structure supporting the spillway chute.
The Galveston District plans to take bids to fill a significant portion of the scour hole with roller-compacted concrete and installing tieback anchors through the existing left cutoff wall. In addition, training walls will be used to facilitate placement of backfill to support the existing cutoff structure wing walls and to help divert erosive flow away from critical locations.
The work is valued at $10 million to $25 million.
