Venezuela utility Corporacion Electrica Nacional S.A. (Corpoelec) has extended the deadline for expressions of interest from consultants to train staff in hydro-meteorological and limnological monitoring and in emergency response and environmental education for the 10,300-MW Simon Bolivar hydroelectric project on Venezuela’s Caroni River. Responses to two solicitations now are due December 13.
Corpoelec previous called for expressions of interest by November 29.
The solicitations are part of a program by Corpoelec to rehabilitate six turbine-generators that have been operating for 50 years at Simon Bolivar, located at Guri Dam. The Inter-American Development Bank lent US$700 million and the Andean development corporation, Corporacion Andina de Fomento, lent US$380 million to help replace Units 1-6.
In the first of two solicitations, Proceso SP-SUR6-A-0332/2012, Corpoelec invites expressions of interest from consultants to design and implement an education and training program for staff on networks of monitoring of hydro-meteorological and limnological variables in the Caroni River Basin, in the context of integrated watershed management, in particular supporting hydropower.
In a second solicitation, Proceso SP-SUR6-A-0333/2012, Corpoelec invites expressions of interest from consultants for training of emergency response brigades, environmental operational contingencies, and design of an environmental education program for integrated management of wastes from operation of the Simon Bolivar project.
Expressions of interest and no more than 10 pages of supporting information, for each solicitation, now are due to the address below by 4 p.m. December 13 in a sealed envelope labeled with the appropriate process number above. They also may be submitted by fax or e-mail to the addresses below.
