Video insights from HydroVision International: David Murray with Hydro-Quebec

David Murray, chief operating officer of Hydro-Quebec and president of Hydro-Quebec Production, was a keynote speaker at HydroVision International 2019, where he gave an engaging presentation on environmental challenges and the role of hydropower in keeping our electricity green and low-cost.

Hydro-Quebec operates about 60 hydroelectric generating stations with a total capacity of 36,366 MW, so Murray is extremely familiar with hydro and its values and attributes.

We had an opportunity to conduct a video interview with Murray at HydroVision International. Click below to hear more about the company’s future focus — combining plant refurbishments and continuing new development — and how business practices can be applied across various sectors.

In June, the crown provincial utility announced plans to refurbish its 204-MW Rapide-Blanc generating station, which was commissioned in 1934. “This work will allow the generating station to contribute to meeting Quebec’s energy needs for the next 50 years while remaining profitable. This highlights one of the many advantages hydropower has to offer: reliable, continuous energy generation over the long term,” Murray said.
