Vietnam builder wins tunnel contract for 37-MW Song Giang 2

Vietnam hydropower builder Cavico Corp. announced its Cavico Hydropower Construction subsidiary received a US$9.8 million construction contract January 12 for the 37-MW Song Giang 2 hydroelectric project on Vietnam’s Song Giang River.

Cavico Hydropower is to construct a 3,900-meter headrace tunnel, two total 650-meter sub-tunnels, and a 42-meter-tall surge tank. Site preparation is to begin in early 2009, with the work to require 20 months.

The total US$50 million project is being developed by Song Giang 2 Hydropower Joint Stock Co. in Khanh Hoa Province, 30 miles from Nha Trang. Upon completion, Song Giang 2 is to generate 141 million kilowatt-hours annually for the national grid.

Cavico announced in October it achieved breakthrough of the headrace tunnel for the 13.5-MW Dasiat hydropower project in Vietnam’s Lam Dong Province. (HNN 10/24/08)
