Vietnam developer to build 35-MW Thac Ca

Yen Bai People’s Committee has granted approval to Vietnam builder VINAVICO to develop the 35-MW Thac Ca hydropower project on a build-own-operate basis.

Hydropower constructor Cavico Corp., which owns 17 percent of VINAVICO, said May 16 the firm received permission to invest in and build the project at Dai Phac in Yen Bai Province. Total project investment is estimated at US$43.75 million.

Construction of the project is to begin in 2007, with completion in 2009.

In 2006, VINAVICO, a member company of Cavico Vietnam, began construction of the 180-MW Srepok 3 hydroelectric project northwest of Dalat. (HNN 7/19/06)
