Voith hydro turbine photo wins press competition

The above photograph of a Francis hydro turbine runner being manufactured by Voith was declared the winner of the PR Bild Award for Germany.

The photo, taken by Marius Hofinger, shows work being done on a Voith turbine runner for the 4,500-MW Bratsk hydropower plant on the Angara River in Siberia. It was submitted in the product photo category.

The PR Bild Award is headed by News Aktuell, a subsidiary of the dpa news agency. This was the tenth year this award was presented.

“The fact that the photographer managed to capture this beauty in all its simplicity is an outstanding achievement,” said Edith Stier-Thompson, managing director of News Aktuell.

Companies, photographers and agencies from Germany, Austria and Switzerland submitted more than 1,700 pictures for the award. The jury consisted of journalists and public relations experts. A shortlist of ten images was published in August

To increase the output and efficiency of the Bratsk plant, Voith is removing the old turbine runners for the six units and replacing them with new components.
