Voith Hydro wins US161 million equipment contract for Venda Nova III pumped-storage hydro plant in Portugal

Voith Hydro, as the leader in a consortium with Siemens Portugal, has secured a EUR122 million (about US$161 million) contract from Energias de Portugal to supply the complete electromechanical equipment for two reversible pumped-storage units at Portugal’s Venda Nova III project.

The company will supply two pumped-storage units with variable speed, each with 380-MW rated power in turbine mode, two asynchronous motor generators with a rated capacity of 420 megavolt ampere, and other equipment, EDP reported.

The pumped-storage units of Venda Nova III can adapt their number of revolutions continuously and take capacities from the grid in the range between 319 and 380 MW.

In other news, Voith Hydro recently reported it will supply the complete electromechanical equipment for Statkraft’s Kargi hydropower plant in Turkey.
