Voith installs first turbine unit at Ferreira Gomes hydropower project

Voith has completed the installation of the first Kaplan turbine unit at Brazil’s 252-MW Ferreira Gomes hydropower project.

According to the global manufacturer, the turbine and its accompanying synchronous machine is 13-meters-tall and weighs about 250 tons, making transport of the equipment to Ferreira Gomes a challenge.

Located in Brazil’s northern Amapa state, Voith said both transportation by land and rivers were necessary for delivery.

HydroWorld.com reported in October that Voith’s Brazilian branch was recognized for being the best company in the country’s capital goods industry.
