Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation has opened an expanded office for its India operating unit, reflecting the growth potential of the India hydropower market.
In remarks to the opening ceremony, Voith Siemens Hydro Chief Executive Officer Hubert Lienhard emphasized the importance of the India market for the hydro equipment manufacturer. He said Voith Siemens’ closeness to its customers guarantees both better service and optimal access to local resources.
The original Voith Siemens office was established with seven employees more than five years ago in New Delhi. The new office, in the Delhi suburb of Noida, is to house 120 staff members engaged in a growing number of India projects.
Although India has utilized hydropower for more than 110 years, it has developed only 30 percent of its hydropower potential. With an economic growth rate of 9 percent, India has initiated a “Power for All” program to supply all villages with power by 2012.
