Leaders of the water and power sectors from India and beyond are to meet in New Delhi in November to explore the role hydropower can play in sustainable development.
The Association of Energy Supply Industry, the Hydro Power Association &the Dams Society, and the Council of Power Utilities (CPU) are organizing Water India-5, an international conference and exhibition, November 3-4 in New Delhi.
In keeping with the conference theme, “Sustainable Water Development for Freedom and Power,” discussion is to focus on water resources and hydropower development, flood control, irrigation, and related issues.
A member of India’s parliament, Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, is to address the conference opening session. Swaminathan, a guest of honor at Water India-5, is chairman of the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation. Other speakers are to include CPU President C.V.J. Varma and invited Power Ministry and industry officials.
President Luis Berga of the International Commission on Large Dams will keynote a session on water resources development. The session will examine the effect of water resources development on socio-economic advancement of a country.
In addition to broader policy topics, conference sessions are to focus on uprating, renovation, and modernization of hydro plants; transmission and distribution systems to deliver hydropower to consumers; flood control, irrigation, spillway, and sediment management; roller-compacted concrete, concrete-faced rockfill, and rockfill dams; river control during construction; and socio-environmental aspects, navigation, and drinking water.
The event includes an exhibition of equipment and services offered by leading companies in the water and power sectors.
Organizers continued to accept submissions under a call for papers. The deadline for submission of full-length papers is September 30.
