Water resources development, management studies sought in Tanzania basins

A series of solicitations have been issued for water infrastructure feasibility studies and for water resources management and development studies in five basins in Tanzania. Expressions of interest are due May 14 and May 18.

Mara River Basin

The Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) invites expressions of interest from consultants by May 14 to perform feasibility studies for a regional water infrastructure project in the Mara River Basin of Tanzania and Kenya. (HydroWorld 3/25/10) In December 2009, NBI called for consultants to prepare feasibility studies and investment proposals for the Mara River Basin. (HydroWorld 12/3/09)

In the latest Mara Basin solicitation, NBI’s Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program (NELSAP) envisages preparation of an investment project through feasibility studies for multi-purpose regional water storage infrastructure that could include hydroelectric power, flood control, water supply, irrigation, fisheries, and recreation. The 12-month studies, beginning in October, also would include environmental and social management issues.

Expressions of interest, an original and three copies in English, are due to the address below by 10 a.m. May 14, labeled “Expression of Interest for Feasibility Studies for a Mara Regional Water Infrastructure Project.” For information, contact Project Manager, Mara River Basin Project Management Unit, Regional Water Office Building, Baruti Area, Off Mwanza-Musoma Road, P.O.
