Windemuller wins contract for Soo Locks transformer replacement

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a contract to Windemuller Electric to supply a step-up transformer at Soo Locks.

Soo Locks, located on the St. Marys River, serves as a navigation link between Lake Superior and the Lower Great Lakes, as well as the location of the Corps’ 21-MW St. Marys Falls, 27-MW Edison Sault Electric, and 52-MW Francis H. Clergue hydropower projects.

The Corps’ Detroit District most recently solicited bids in August for work that includes the removal and replacement of a transformer enclosure, installation of an equipment pad and containment system, protective devices, cabling, supports, and other items in the Unit 10 powerhouse.

The contract is valued at US$465,749.
