ASUNCION, Paraguay 1/20/12 (PennWell) — A proposed addition to Paraguay’s 3,200-MW Yacryeta hydroelectric complex could be jeopardized should Argentina not consent to power sales by Paraguay to Uruguay via Argentine power lines, sources report.
Yacryeta is a bi-national hydropower facility on the border between Paraguay and Argentina. The expansion, proposed by Argentina, calls for the construction of a new 270-MW hydro plant on the Ana Cua branch of the Parana River. Bids were sought in September 2011.
Mercedes Canese, Paraguay’s deputy minister of mines and energy, said she expects Argentina to agree soon.
