Zambia energy project to include mini-hydro

The government of Zambia plans to seek consulting services for an energy and communications program that includes investments in mini-hydropower totaling about US$5 million.

The government has requested US$30 million in financing from the World Bank and its Global Environment Facility for a program of increased access to energy and information and communication technology.

The program is to include: investments in mini-hydro of about US$5 million; isolated grids or grid extensions to farming blocks, peri-urban sites, mission sites, and district trading sites totaling about US$15 million; investments in photovoltaic power systems of US$2.3 million; investments in information and communication technology of US$5 million; and technical assistance consultancy contracts with US$2.7 million.
