Zambia seeks construction of Mwomboshi Dam, reservoir

The government of Zambia invites applications for pre-qualification for construction of Mwomboshi Dam in Chisamba District of Zambia’s Central Province. Responses are due April 21.

Zambia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock recruited firms in February for construction supervision of Mwomboshi under its Irrigation Development and Support Project.

The government recruited firms last year to consolidate and update the nation’s water resources development planning, to design construction and rehabilitation of at least 100 small dams, and to strengthen Zambia’s hydro-meteorological monitoring network.  Zambia Electricity Supply Corp. also took bids last year to review and update environmental and social impact assessments of the 750-MW Kafue Gorge Lower hydroelectric project proposed for Zambia’s Kafue River.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock now invites applications for pre-qualification for construction of Mwomboshi, including a 23-meter-tall, 1.7-kilometer-long clay core rockfill dam; dam embankment main intake structures; spillway; diversion works; pedestrian bridge; all civil works for three shore-based pumping stations; and excavations of three approach canals to the pumping stations.

Pre-qualification documents in English may be obtained from the address below for 500 kwacha (US$68) or its equivalent in any freely convertible currency.

Responses are due to the address below by 10 a.m. April 21.
